Position Overview

The managing editor will work in collaboration with the Editor of Food Business News to execute editorial strategy, coordinate the day-to-day editorial operations to meet deadlines with accuracy, and support the development and growth of FBN editorial team members. This role will contribute compelling content for online, print and custom projects. The Managing Editor will also have coverage responsibility at industry events and trade shows, requiring some travel.

Responsibilities

· Research and identify news and industry topics to develop timely and appropriate content for daily website news and each print issue

· Review and edit daily content

· Generate ideas for feature stories based on industry events, trends and coverage relevance

· Work with editorial staff to maintain quality and timely flow of content for the website and print magazine

· Assist with editorial staff management, to include overall staff development and advancement (in collaboration with Editor)

· Set and maintain schedules and deadlines for editorial assignments and custom projects

· Work in collaboration with designer to organize the weekly publication

· Travel to trade shows/conferences and other industry events for the purpose of generating copy, networking and establishing credibility with industry leaders

· Assist in special projects or analysis requests from the editorial staff

· Manage invoices for contributing editors/freelancers

· Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field

· 7+ years journalism experience

· Knowledge of B2B food industry a plus

· Willingness and ability to travel (5-8 times per year)

Position Overview

The general responsibility of this position is to manage the complete accounts payable cycle and handle all expense reporting for the company. This position reports to the Director of Accounting and Human Resources.

Essential Job Functions:

Accounts Payable

· Review all incoming expense-related invoices.

· Match invoices to approved purchase orders.

· Route invoices and expense reports for approval and track their progress.

· Communicate with department heads and supervisors to resolve invoice and expense discrepancies.

· Ensure appropriate documentation and approval is obtained prior to processing invoices and expense reports for payment.

· Determine correct general ledger account coding for each invoice and expense report.

· Calculate appropriate use tax on invoices when required.

· Process allocations for all benefit invoices.

· Prepare batch reports for approval prior to check runs.

· Match invoices and expense reports to checks, obtain all necessary signatures, and distribute checks.

· Obtain required documentation for all new vendors for issuance of 1099s.

· Respond to all vendor inquiries.

· Reconcile vendor statements, research, and correct discrepancies.

· Maintain thorough and accurate files and documentation in accordance with company policy.

· Maintain perpetual list of open invoices requiring approval or research.

· Support month-end and year-end close processes.

Expense Reporting

· Handle expense reporting for business-related travel, meals, lodging, and other business-related expenses.

· Review and process employee expense reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.

· Communicate with employees regarding expense report submissions and resolve any issues or questions.

· Ensure timely reimbursement of approved expenses to employees.

Other Essential Job Functions

· Prepare the daily bank deposit and maintain records of current cash balances.

· Stock, order, and distribute office supplies.

· Perform analysis and complete other special requests as needed.

· Document and update processes and policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

· Other duties as assigned based on business needs.

· Experience in handling employee expense reporting is preferred.

· Willingness to train for payroll backup and general accounting duties.

· Degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in accounting, finance, business, or related field.

This newly created position will collaborate with a high-performing team of experienced writers to provide our readers with essential information used to drive business decisions in the grain-based food industry.

This is a unique opportunity to establish a highly respected journalistic position in a multi-faceted industry and take a leadership role with excellent editorial growth opportunity.

Responsibilities

• Contribute original editorial content and informative multi-sourced feature-length articles to be used across traditional print and emerging digital platforms.

• Identify unique story ideas with emphasis on business topics such as economic, legislative and market trends.

• Interview key members of the grain-based food industry to generate business focused news content covering financial results, emerging business leaders, and the business factors that influence the success and challenges of the industry.

• Establish, develop and maintain sources to provide relevant and compelling insight into the grain-based food industry.

• Establish presence in the industry as a skilled journalist and subject matter expert.

• Edit content for accuracy, quality and style.

The Ideal Candidate

• Excellent researching, interviewing, writing and editing skills.

• Ability to analyze, discuss and write about market activity and the financial and economic impacts of industry behaviors.

• Ability to write informative news, profile, merger/acquisition, earnings reports and feature stories from a business perspective.

• Willing and able to travel – must participate in industry events and trade shows in addition to occasional travel for story assignments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, English, Economics, Business or related discipline.

• 10+ years of writing experience in a journalistic/reporting news format.

• Knowledge of food-based markets preferred or a demonstrated interest in learning the industry.
