Position Overview

Sosland Publishing is seeking an experienced journalist for our Milling & Baking News and Food Business News print and online publications. This role is responsible for collecting ingredient market data and writing market commentary and news stories on various food commodities such as wheat, corn, soy, flour, sugar, eggs and others. An understanding of markets and their economic value will support the news-enriched quality of these publications.

THe ideal candidate:

· Excellent researching, interviewing, writing and editing skills

· Identify and analyze market data with urgency and accuracy

· Calculate percentage changes in crop production yields and identify data trends related to ingredient commodity production and prices

· Provide readers with insights related to commodity markets and trends

· Ability to establish, develop and maintain sources for market columns and stories

· Proactively engage with industry associations and experts

· Proven ability to meet deadlines while managing articles at various stages of the writing process

· Develop compelling and informative editorial content to be used across traditional print and digital platforms

· Ability and willingness to travel to conferences and other industry events

Education and experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Economics, Business or related discipline

· 5-10 years previous writing experience in a journalistic/reporting format, B2B preferred

· Knowledge of the food-based markets preferred or demonstrated interest in learning the market industries

· Familiarity using various social media platforms to drive content awareness.

· Experience using Excel, Word and Outlook (InDesign helpful)
